Some cars are destined to enter the hall of fame before their presentation. Like the Ferrari BB (Berlinetta Boxer), which not surprisingly was compared to another famous ‘B.B.’ for its charm and edgy image: the French diva Brigitte Bardot.

However, the Ferrari BB is not just a wonderful grand tourer that fascinates at first sight. There are numerous reasons of interest tied to this exceptional car from Maranello, extensively illustrated in this exclusive book, full of details and unpublished facts, particularly accurate also on a graphic level: large format, photographs mostly purposely shot, with nine cars available (of the three series envisaged), in addition to the “racing” versions.

The BB was the first road-going Ferrari with a high-power 12-cylinder rear engine: it was a difficult transition for Maranello, as Piero Ferrari (in the preface), who was very young at the time and already integrated into the factory created by his father, and Leonardo Fioravanti, the man behind the Pininfarina style and responsible for development together with the Prancing Horse men, explain in the book.

The BB is equally famous for the 180° V 12-cylinder engine, an unusual choice, conceived by Mauro Forghieri for the formidable F1 “312” engine. The great Modena engineer himself illustrates the evolution and the affinities between the two units, while the development of the prototypes is entrusted to the memories of two other key figures: the racing driver Arturo Merzario and the well-known “king of test drivers”, Dario Benuzzi, with an almost 50-year career behind him driving Ferraris, including F1. Another observer of that period, the coach-builder Franco Bacchelli, responsible for the development of the “Le Mans” racing version, is remembered through the 29 official cars built, together with the memories of the former racing driver Maurizio Flammini.

The Ferrari F40 caused a sensation when it first saw the light of day in 1987 thanks to its uncompromising lines and a formidable mechanical specification, most of which left in plain sight and promising unrivalled performance. The car emanated immense appeal from every side.

The last of the Prancing Horse’s GT cars “approved” by Enzo Ferrari is the protagonist of this book by Gaetano Derosa, a book that starts from a long way out, analysing the “forebears” of the F40: from the 250 LM of 1963 to the 308 “Millechiodi” of 1978, to the 288 GTO of 1984 and the GTO Evoluzione of 1986. The technical and stylistic evolution of the F40 is also recounted by the figures responsible for this thoroughbred Ferrari: from Leonardo Fioravanti, in his dual role as designer and at the time vice-chairman of the Maranello firm to Nicola Materazzi who defined the monstrous eight-cylinder engine that powered the car and through to Piero Ferrari himself one of the great supporters of the F40 Le Mans project.

It is no coincidence that the book concludes with an exhaustive chapter dedicated to the F40 in racing, from the GT and single-marque championships to the return to the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Internationally awarded automotive photographer Piotr Degler launches his long awaited new coffee table book “Made in Italy”. The culmination of more than a decade of work portraying extraordinary Italian concept cars and iconic limited edition models.

This is not just “another car book”, but it presents 100 high quality images with painstaking attention to detail. 80% of the photographs have never been seen before, as they where shot exclusively for this book.
The mix of images creates what the author calls “a visual experience”, never monotone, but trying to awaken emotions every time a page is turned. It is a mix between classic and modern cars, between concept and production cars, between studio and on location shots…
The goal was not to show the most important or significant models, something you could easily find on the internet, but to create visual pleasure through quality and exclusive photography.

To compile this book, Degler worked together with most Italian car museums, automotive companies, design centres and car collectors in Italy and worldwide. “Made in Italy” is completed with an initial section dedicated to “The Maestros”, where eleven automotive legends are portrayed and share some thoughts with us: Giampaolo Dallara, Leonardo Fioravanti, Marcello Gandini, Giorgetto Giugiaro, Flavio Manzoni, Paolo Martin, Horacio Pagani, Paolo Pininfarina, Ercole Spada, Alfredo Stola and Andrea Zagato.

“If you create something, it needs to be something never seen before. ” The total cost of this colossal project exceeds 135,000€. Since the first shot was taken, more than ten years have passed. “Made in Italy” has texts in both English and Italian. It is also printed in Italy using the best materials. To make it even more personal, Degler Studio self-edited it: “I wanted to create something each car-, photography- or design-enthusiast could proudly display in his living room, sharing it with friends and enjoying it from time to time.”

For 30 years from 1927 until 1957 the real Mille Miglia was the “race of excellence”. A unique event of over 1,600 kilometres across Italy, the stars of which were some of the world’s greatest car manufacturers, among them Alfa Romeo, Mercedes-Benz, Maserati, Ferrari, Jaguar and Aston Martin. And their cars were driven, naturally, by some of the equally great champions of the time, like Tazio Nuvolari, Achille Varzi, through to Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss as well as Alberto Ascari, Clemente Biondetti, Piero Taruffi and many others. Count Giannino Marzotto won the race twice in Ferraris in 1950 and 1953 and said the Mille Miglia was “a synthesis of dynamism, freedom, challenge, courage and calculation”. The story, or better the stories, of that legendary race live again in this book, which tells the tales of the classic “Bresciana”, first of all through hundreds of pictures, most of them never previously published. The text has been written by Leonardo Acerbi, who also wrote “Mille Miglia Story 1927-1957”.

For the first time, one of the major names in Italian car design tells his story from the beginning; from when he made his first sketches on paper, unbeknown to his parents and not only of cars, to reaching a point at which his name became synonymous with some of the best known and most important cars on the international front. In his 23-year career at Pininfarina, Leonardo Fioravanti, who was first a designer and architect, then managing director and director general of ‘Studi & Ricerche’ department, created some of the most beautiful Ferraris of all time; they ranged from the 1965 250 LM sports coupe Speciale to the immortal 1968 Daytona through to the 1975 308 GTB and GTS and the 1984 288 GTO, as well as the P5 and P6 of 1968. While continuing his Ferrari essay during his Pininfarina career, Fioravanti also guided the creation of numerous other projects, among them the Dino road car, the 1980 Pinin four-door prototype and went on to the 1984 Testarossa and the 1987 F40. He worked for the Fiat Group from 1988 until 1991, during which time he took on the roles of deputy director general of Ferrari, later became responsible for advanced design CRF and then head of the Fiat Styling Centre. In 1987, he founded Fioravanti srl, an architectural studio, and in 1991 he extended his services to industry, in particular the design of means of transport. Images of an epoch, designs from his own personal archive never previously seen and, above all, a passionate first person account. Those are the key elements of this outstanding book which, through the creations of Leonardo Fioravanti, covers over 50 years of the history of automobile style and culture.
