PORSCHE 911 2.7 – 3.0 – 3.2 LITRE 1973-1989 WORKSHOP MANUAL

PORSCHE 911 2.7 – 3.0 – 3.2 LITRE 1973-1989 WORKSHOP MANUAL

Updated from its previous format to include the later 3.2 Litre models through 1989. This Floyd Clymer publication includes complete technical data, service and maintenance information and comprehensive detailed instructions for the repair and overhaul of all major and minor mechanical and electrical components for the 1973 to 1989 Porsche 911G Series, 2.7, 3.0 and the 3.2 Litre models.

In its original format, this manual covered the Porsche 911 models through the 1978 model year. However, additional information for the earlier 2.7 and 3.0 Litre models that was not available at the time the original manual was published, is now included or appended to each chapter in this revised publication.

While this manual focuses on the 1973-1989 G series 911, much of the information is also applicable to the earlier 2.4 Litre (1971-73) models destined for the U.S.A., Australia, Japan and Canada that, due to emission requirements, were fitted with Bosch mechanical fuel injection (FIP). Consequently, this manual will also be of interest to owners of those 2.4 litre fuel injected models.

The manual is broken down into the following sections: Engine, Fuel System including Bosch mechanical fuel injection (FIP) continuous injection (CIS) and digital fuel injection (DME). Ignition Systems including Capacitive Discharge CDS, CDI and DME, Cooling, Heating & Exhaust Emission Systems, Clutch, Manual Transmission & Sportomatic Transmission, Rear Suspension & Drive Axles, Front Suspension, Steering, Brakes, Electrical System and Body. There is also an appendix to the rear of the manual that includes Technical Specifications and Wiring Diagrams.

While reprints of the factory manual are readily available, they are relatively expensive and we are pleased to be able to offer this reasonably priced alternative as a service to all 1973-1989 Porsche 911 enthusiasts worldwide.

248 pages, 311 illustrations plus an additional 66 pages of wiring diagrams, size 8.25 x 10.75 inches

The nine-eleven has been in production for over 60 years!

More than 60 years have passed since the Porsche 911 was presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1963, still as the Type 901. If things keep going this way, the Porsche 911 will surpass the 65-year production run of the VW Beetle (1938-2003). The book “Porsche 911 -60 Years” takes an in-depth look at how a small team of employees was able to create a sports car legend that is still unmatched today.

Interviews with the most important developers of the Porsche 911

All the important contemporary witnesses to the development of the 911 have their say in detailed interviews, including visionary Ferry Porsche, who came up with the only sensible concept for the successor to the 356.

And, of course, a detailed conversation with F.A. Porsche, under whose direction this century-old design in automotive engineering was created, is not to be missed.

Porsche engineering legend Hans Mezger reports on the development of the 911 engine, but Helmuth Bott, Peter Falk and Herbert Linge also provide intensive insights into the exciting period of 911 development.

All 82 Porsche 901 from 1964 are presented

In addition to interviews with contemporary witnesses, the book presents unpublished color photographs of the 901 presentation tour in 1963 and 1964. In addition, all 82 Neunelfer models that rolled off the production line as the Type 901 at the start of series production can be presented in detail for the first time.

The story of the 901 prototype quick blue is told

The book also takes an in-depth look at the first sales brochures and the color palette of the original 911. The book is rounded off by a detailed buying guide, which “Mr. 901”, Alois Ruf has created exclusively. There is probably no other expert in the world who knows more about the Porsche 901 prototypes and the very early 911s. Alois Ruf also owns the oldest Porsche 911 ever and reveals in an interview how he came to own this sensational one-off.

Alwin Springer – Racing with Porsche in North America – Limited edition

Alwin Springer – Racing with Porsche in North America – Limited edition

Growing up in the Ruhr area of Germany, Springer emigrated to Canada in the 1960s, but soon settled in California due to the warmer weather. There, after further improving his skills, the trained car mechanic/electrician found a job with Porsche specialist Vasek Polak and from then on looked after Polak’s Can-Am race cars as a mechanic.

Later, Springer started his own venture Andial with former Polak colleagues Arnold Wagner and Dieter Inzenhofer. The now-legendary tuning company went on to compete successfully in IMSA and, with the Andial engines, enjoyed quite a bit of success in other racing series as well. Andial became the number one address for Porsche customers in the USA, and even at Le Mans, customers of the German marque started using Andial engines. The secret of the California-based German trio: they had entrusted a capable man in Silicon Valley with the task of decoding the engine control system of the Porsche factory and thus making all parameters freely adjustable. Alwin Springer and his team perfected their set-ups in hours of test-bench runs. Morever, Springer also had a key role in the relaunch of Porsche Motorsport North America at the end of 1989 and is still active as a consultant for PMNA today.

Alwin Springer, together with Wilfried Müller, summarises his experiences from Can-Am, IMSA and the modern era at PMNA in 47 entertaining chapters, accompanied by countless photos from his private collection dating back to his early years with Vasek Polak.

Porsche 356: 75th Anniversary

Porsche 356: 75th Anniversary

Porsche 356: 75th Anniversary relates the full story of Porsche’s original sports car from the first Gmund coupe to today’s beloved collector car.

Ferdinand Porsche was a brilliant engineer who, prior to World War II, had been involved in a variety of significant automotive engineering developments including the first hybrid drive  vehicles. From the early 1900s, Porsche was developing racing cars including the Mercedes SSK and the mighty Auto Union Grand Prix. During this period, Porsche also developed the groundbreaking Volkswagen, which would prove critical to his postwar, namesake automobile manufacturer.

The Typ 356 was developed by Ferdinand’s son “Ferry” Porsche and introduced in 1948. Though the rear-engine layout was based on the Volkswagen, most similarities ended there. The 356 had a unique chassis, higher performing engine, and a handsome wind-cheating body. Little known outside Germany initially, by the early 1950s the 356s were lauded for their excellent handling, build quality, and growing volume of competition successes.

Porsche’s 356 evolved over its 17-year life through four distinct series: pre-A, A, B, and C, with coupes, cabriolets, Speedsters, Hardtops, and Roadsters among the many body variations. Equipped with the “Carrera” 4-cam engine, the 356 was a force in sports car racing. Dedicated competition models were developed beginning in 1953, and the Rennsport Spyders dominated road racing, endurance, and hill climb events for over a decade.

The 356 story includes a cast of fascinating characters, from those engineers who designed the cars, to race drivers who built the “giant-killer” mystique, to owners like James Dean and Janis Joplin who fell in love with the little bathtub-shaped sports cars. From titled European gentlemen in the 1950s to movie stars like Paul Newman and Steve McQueen in the 1960s, the first Porsches attracted enthusiasts and racers alike. Today, the car has an even wider following among collectors including Porsche fans like Jerry Seinfeld and Jay Leno. “356 Fascination” continues with ongoing restoration efforts, vintage racing, and an “Outlaw” movement, all enhanced by large-scale events that celebrate the car’s history.

Porsche 356 75th Anniversary tells the in-depth story and is a must-have book for anyone that loves Porsche and sports car history.

Cars – Driven by Design: Sports Cars from the 1950s to the 1970s

Cars – Driven by Design: Sports Cars from the 1950s to the 1970s

As a design object beyond its practical purpose, the automobile has left an indelible mark on the world we live in. There is scarcely another everyday item which has been designed in a more sophisticated and inventive manner and which offers a larger projection area. This can be seen with particular clarity in the sports car of the 1950s, ’60s, and ’70s, which are fast, beautiful, eccentric, and innovative. In recent decades, these coveted collector’s items have attained cult status, and have come to be widely regarded as dream cars for eternity. In an exciting journey through time, this volume pays homage to a selection of exclusive sports cars by legendary manufacturers—including Porsche, Ferrari, and Jaguar—showing them to be artworks in their own right. Essays, biographies, and brilliant color photographs shed light on the sports car’s unparalleled unity of form, technology, design, and emotions.

Porsche 930 to 935: The Turbo Porsches (Paperback)

Porsche 930 to 935: The Turbo Porsches (Paperback)

In 1974, to rave reviews, Porsche produced the 930/911 Turbo to the public and set off on a new road. At the same time, the governing body of motorsport introduced a new “silhouette” formula to sports car racing. Thus the immortal 934 and 935 were born. Porsche 930 to 935: The Turbo Porsches tells the story of the 911 Turbo and its racing cousins, from the 1974 2.1-liter RSR Turbo Carrera to the tube-framed 750 horsepower final variants of the 935. These are the cars which still bring a gleam of pleasure to any of the drivers lucky enough to have sampled their enormous power and, sometimes, their wayward handling!

In his recordings, the well-known Formula 1 track is presented with almost no crash barriers and run-off zones, without advertising posters and sponsor logos. Porsche Legends: The Racing Icons from Zuffenhausen

Porsche Legends: The Racing Icons from Zuffenhausen

  • Star photographer René Staud’s illustrated book is a monument to the highspeed icons from Zuffenhausen to the ultimate Porsche racing cars
  • Large-format Porsche illustrated book with almost 200 spectacular photos
  • The ideal gift for Porsche fans and racing sport enthusiasts
  • All racing cars perfectly staged by star photographer René Staud
  • With background information and technical data on each of the Porsche models

Porsche and motorsport always belonged together – so you could think. But in fact, private owners were the first to be successful with their 356s on the racing tracks. The Porsche 550 Spyder from the 1950s was the first racing car manufactured at the plant – and achieved great successes right from the beginning! Motorsport not only gave Porsche the opportunity to test progressive technology that could be transferred to roadsters, it also was the ideal marketing tool with an enormous influence. Looking back at models like the Porsche 917, 904 and 956, successful serial winners and racing legends emerged from that. Just as legendary are René Staud’s Porsche photos. As one of the best and most famous automobile photographers in the world, he staged the top-class sports cars in a way so far unmatched. Beyond the racing track’s noise and dirt, the Porsche models unfold their unique magic and show the tough developmental work behind them as well as the timelessness of functional design. Porsche Carrera RS 50 YEARS 1972-2022

Porsche Carrera RS 50 YEARS 1972-2022

“Only 500 men will ever drive it”

This was the slogan that Porsche chose to advertise its new elite model, which, under the name Carrera RS, was supposed to change the course of history. The first 911 Carrera RS was a true stroke of genius on the part of Porsche: The car, only 500 units of which actually needed to be built for homologation purposes and which originally left the sales department far from convinced, turned into an unexpected sales hit. Within a very short time, the Carrera RS cemented its status as the dream car par excellence for sports car fans. Although the original, somewhat naive idea had been to only produce five hundred of these cars, in the end more than three times that number were made and sold. In the summer of 1973, production ended after 1,580 units had been made.

The new Carrera RS of the 964 generation became a worthy successor to the legend. Nevertheless, it took a full 18 years before the legitimate successor to the Carrera RS 2.7 was presented. Legendary Porsche racing engineer Roland Kussmaul tells us why it took so long in an exclusive interview.

The new Carrera RS of the 964 generation became the legitimate successor to the legend. The 964 RS needed no more than 260 hp to reach a top speed of 260 km/h. Again, more than twice as many vehicles as actually required were sold within a very short time.

The Porsche 993 RS became the last classic Carrera RS. The last classic 911 RS was presented in January 1995 . As far as many fans of the ‘Eleven were concerned, its attractive design crowned the 911 RS of the 993 generation as the most beautiful Carrera RS of all time. In this last air-cooled 911 RS, the engineers achieved a particularly harmonious synthesis of sportiness and comfort.

The Carrera RS book for the 50th birthday! The time has come to dedicate a book to the classic, air-cooled series of the 911-RS. In addition to detailed buying advice and price developments over the past few years, the book also includes an extensive technical and statistical section.

PINK PIG PORSCHE The Truffle Hunter of Zuffenhausen

PINK PIG PORSCHE The Truffle Hunter of Zuffenhausen

PINK PIG PORSCHE  The Truffle Hunter of Zuffenhausen is a thorough photo narrative of the Pink Pig’s motorsports history which  includes over 125 legendary images, many of which are exclusively from the Porsche Archive and from other unpublished photography sources.

Renowned Porsche historian and author Lee Raskin conveys a wonderful tale about the legendary Pink Pig Porsche and its unique livery — which continues to span beyond five decades.

Built especially for the 1971 Le Mans 24 Hour Race, Porsche AG created the special-bodied TYP 917/20-001 that would be uniquely painted pink along with thirteen German butcher-cut names covering its body — that instantly became known as the Le Mans Pink Pig by the motorsports media.

In recent years, tens of thousands of Porsche enthusiasts have visited the Porsche Museum at Stuttgart-Zufenhausen to meet this legendary 917/20  Pink Pig.

Today, Pink Pig memorabilia has become extremely popular — in the form of  designer clothing, model racing cars, ‘Piggy’ banks, coffee and beer mugs,  cookies, and dynamic Pink Pig posters and collectible art work.

Pehaps the most exciting Pink Pig news of the day is the acquisition and reinvention of the original Porky’s Pig by the renowned motorsports artist, Kelly Telfer…who has created a very unique Pink Pig display for worldwide Porsche-related events, such as the annual Porsche Club of America’s Porsche Parade, and Werks; as well as the famed Amelia Island event.

The complete motorsports story is included in PINK PIG PORSCHE:  The Truffle Hunter of Zuffenhausen.
