In 1953, Robert Straub set off for a year’s study abroad in France. Already interested in cars and their designs (he was later to become a designer for General Motors) he took hundreds of snapshots of exotic (to him) cars on the streets. By the time he returned to France a decade later, nearly all the cars he had seen previously had disappeared due to stringent post-WW II taxes.
