The DPPI (Diffusion Presse Photo International) agency is the brainchild of a handful of men who shared a passion for both photography and automobiles – especially sports cars. DPPI immediately set about sharing as widely as possible the day-to-day experiences of drivers and racing teams on road and track. The book, numbering 350 pages, is prefaced with a foreword by Marek Reichman, Executive Vice President and Chief Creative Officer at Aston Martin Lagonda.

Jonathan Wood has written this book as a story, rather than a compendium of race results and Aston Martin models. The story is accompanied by sidebars which give more in-depth information on particular areas of interest.

The first 3 chapters are devoted to the history of Bamford & Martin, and Aston Martin up to 1932. The works Le Mans cars LM8, 9 and 10 are introduced for the first time in chapter 4. Much of the material in these early chapters has been contributed by Aston Martin’s archivists and has not previously been published.

The focus changes in the ensuing chapters to LM10, its sister cars, and their contribution both to Aston Martin’s racing pedigree and also to the development of Aston Martin road cars. The pre-war races are covered in some detail. As well as its 3 consecutive Le Mans finishes, LM10 was the works development car and the book details how improvements trialled at the Sarthe circuit were incorporated in the design of their most successful Le Mans road car, and the succeeding Ulster models. The history of LM10, its drivers and owners, is fully covered.

Unlike previous Aston Martin books, a large part of this volume is devoted to the lives of the individuals responsible for keeping the Aston Martin brand afloat, especially during the pre-war years.

Above all, it is primarily a story of the evolution of the Aston Martin brand, from its inception as Bamford & Martin to the post-war years. Sidebars included in the final 2 chapters briefly complete the Aston Martin story from Feltham to Ford, and up to the present day.

Giugiaro is one of the most prestigious names in the history of automotive design, synonymous with iconic cars such as the Alfa Romeo Giulia Sprint GT and Alfetta, the Volkswagen Golf, the Audi 80, the Fiat Panda, Uno and Punto, the Lancia Delta, Thema and Prisma and the Maserati Bora, Ghibli and Merak, to mention but a few of the most successful designs to carry the Giugiaro name. Born in 1938 at Garessio in the province of Turin, Giugiaro honed his professional skills at Bertone and then at Ghia before setting up on his own when founding Giugiaro Italdesign in 1968. Today the firm is as active as ever and has been responsible for concept cars such as the Caimano, the Iguana and the Canguro, all based on Alfa Romeo mechanicals, and the Asso di Picche and the Quadri on respectively Audi and BMW chassis. Lambretta TV/LI: Series 1: – History, models and documentation

Following the monograph devoted to the Lui, this latest volume focuses on another iconic Lambretta the TV-LI Series I. In the history of the Lambretta, the TV and LI Series I laid the foundations of a new engineering concept that revolutionised the traditional model with shaft drive, sold from 1947 to 1958 in hundreds of thousands of examples. There were numerous innovations characterising this new series of models: the engine adopted a duplex chain transmission with a four-speed gearbox and the cylinder was set horizontally, while in terms of the chassis, the most significant novelties concerned the larger 10″ wheels and the dimensions of the bodywork. No less important were the improvements to the rear suspension, which abandoned the famous torsion bar for a more efficient motorcycle-style spring-damper unit. For the first time a Lambretta reached a displacement of 170 cc and could offer high performance with a maximum speed of over 100 kph. This model, which went head-to-head with the Vespa 150 GS, is without doubt one of the most sought-after by collectors today. Even the more tranquil LI 125 and 150 were extremely successful, with thousands of examples of this exceptional Innocenti scooter still on the roads today, appreciated for their incredible robustness and stability. Numerous 250 GTs, the 250 Le Mans, the 365 Daytona, the 308 GTB, the Testarossa and the 288 GTO are all Pininfarina-bodied Ferraris. This book recounts the most recent history of this giant of Italian car design with all the latest products realised in particular for the Asian market where the Pininfarina brand has an increasing presence.
