MOTOR TREND PRESENTS SHELBY a Tribute to an American Original
Posted on 09/25/2012

After Carroll Shelby died, Motor Trend released a special-edition magazine celebrating the automotive legend's life. Enthusiasts who want to share Shelby's story in a book format should consider our new hardcover book, with larger photos and glossier pages than in the magazine. The book, which goes on sale today, features expanded coverage and showcases the life of the industry pioneer.
Packed with exclusive photos plus stories from those who knew him best, the hardcover book takes an in-depth look at Shelby's automotive legacy, with photos of him as a young boy with his first set of wheels to Shelby accepting trophies in his striped overalls. We also share the story of the CSX2589, Shelby's very own snake and the last 289 Cobra to roll off the production line before Shelby switched to 427s.
We also delve deeper into the Mustang Era and the challenges Shelby faced, including the development of the Cobra coupe to compete against the Ferrari GTO on the European circuits. You'll also see stories from his Dodge days and working with Lee Iacocca, and learn about often-overlooked contributions to vehicles he influenced, including a 1959 Scaglietti Corvette, 1967-1969 DeTomaso Mangusta, and Prudhome Super Snake Dragster.
Finally, we highlight the Carroll Shelby Foundation, a venture he founded following a heart transplant that nearly took his life. A portion of the proceeds from the sales of this book will go to the Carroll Shelby Foundation.
